This hockey game from the ’80s has to be one of the craziest toys I’ve ever seen. What a bizarre stretch to put the magic of pro wrestling with the grace of hockey! This box art is totally insane and raises so many questions. Why is Jake the Snake using his serpent for a hockey stick? What in the world is The Ultimate Warrior holding in his hand? And what sort of developmental problems does that kid have that requires him to wear a helmet? I was lucky enough to interview Jason O’Reilly, the graphic designer that painted this image, to tell me about what it was like putting this picture together:
retroCRUSH: So…does this picture bring back great memories?
JASON: It sure as hell does, Robert. I consider this piece one of the greatest paintings ever made.
retroCRUSH: Ha, seriously?
JASON: Of course not, but what the fuck do you want me to say? When are you going to buy me that beer you promised me?
retroCRUSH: Pretty soon.
JASON: I could tell you some great stories about this picture, if you did a little something for me.
retroCRUSH: Yeah, like what?
JASON: Maybe you could tell me unicorn stories while you rubbed my back and chewed on ear.
retroCRUSH: I probably won’t do that.
JASON: THIS INTERVIEW IS OVER!
Thanks to Jason for the great trip back down memory lane!

I remember all those guys except that guy with a purple sweater around
his neck and purple knee pads. Man is he giving it to H. Hogan.
That’s Rick “The Model” Martel who you surely remember. Right?
