An already-sublime instrumental play-out is
several minutes underway when, seemingly out of nowhere,
Dickie Betts’ slide
guitar floats in atop the proceedings, sounding like an impossibly high, keening
human voice from…where? Van Morrison’s “Heaven,” perhaps? This is the same
device employed in Clapton’s overrated “Layla,” which usually gets all the
publicity, but its use is so much more melodic and pleasing here.
