#40 "LA GRANGE"
ZZ TOP, 1973

Before they were slick techno rockers perfecting synchronized guitar twirling,
the boys in ZZ Top were good old fashioned southern fried blues rock to the
highest order. The opening guitar from "La Grange" is the stuff of legend.
Borrowing from the John Lee Hooker song "Boogie Chillen", Billy Gibbons starts
strumming with a fuzzy groove that makes you think of driving a convertible
across the desert. Used in at least a hundred commercials and movies since
it was first released, "La Grange" is easily one of the more recognizable guitar
openings of any rock song.
