Now hear me out before you pound out an email telling me how screwed up this
pick is. Lionel Richie can write some songs! He gave you funky
classics like "Brick House" and perfect ballads like "Easy", "Endless Love" and
Kenny Rogers' "Lady". Anyway, I had a good laugh when Adrian Fuoco sent me
an email campaigning for it's inclusion, but it makes perfect sense after I read
it, "Not a bad song for all intents and purposes, plus, it's featured quite
nicely in the Miami Vice pilot. Anyway, you may recall one point in the song
where, for whatever reason, Lionel starts singing in some strange language mixed
with English. It almost sounds like Lionel is speaking in tongues ala DeNiro in
Cape Fear. Here's what he says, I took it from some lyrics site that had exactly
2.6 million pop-ups per second.
Tom bo li de say de moi ya
Yeah, jambo jumbo
Way to parti' o we goin'
Oh, jambali
Tom bo li de say de moi ya
Yeah, jambo jumbo!!
After this is breaks into a sweet horn riff, then Lionel mellows right out and
he's like:
Oh, oh, oh, oh, yes!
We're gonna have a party, yeah....ugh
And then it's right back into the chorus
Actually, now that I think of it, that song kinda rocks. No wonder they used it
to introduce evil drug lord Calderone to the world."
