retroCRUSH fan Jonathan Hoyt writes, "I'd
have to say that my all-time favorite song part resides within "Alex Chilton" by
the Replacements (from their Pleased To Meet Me album). Midway through
the tune, immediately following the lyrics "...Runnin' 'round the house,
Mickey Mouse, and the tarot cards...," there comes a rapidly descending
guitar "flourish" (for lack of a better term) that never fails to put my hair up
in curlers, no matter how many times I've heard it. Sometimes, I swear it makes
me levitate. I can only describe it as a three or four second distillation of
everything that rock n' roll ought to be. To me, those all-too-brief moments define great
rock n' roll. I have lots of other favorite song parts, but "Alex Chilton" will
always be my first love."
